we are not boring, but we are not enough to hold on to

we are not amazingly talented, but we are able

we are not monks, but we are not social

we dislike stereotypes, but we do want to belong

we are not watchers, but we are not doers

we are not happy, but we are not miserable

we are not defined, but we are different

we are not artists, but we are not workers

we do not believe in happy endings, but we want one anyway

we are not evolving, and yet we are not still

we are lost, but we are not disoriented

we are not searching, but we are seaking

we are not ‘high’, but we are not on the ground

we are not asleep, yet we are not conscious

conscious that we only live once

and even then…

we are not wasting time, but we keep waiting

waiting for him, for her, for it, for a solution, for something to change, without knowing that change comes from within

we are not those people, but we sure are not these people as well

we are not musicians, but we recognize good music

we are not poets, but we do keep writing

or trying to write!

  كل ما يستطيعون فعله هو جَعل أنفسهم محبوبين ”
  ” ليتعلموا ألاّ يقارنوا أنفسهم بآخرين “
  ” ليتعلموا التسامح ويجرّبوا الغفران ”
  ” ليتعلموا أن الإنسان الأغنى ليس من يملك الأكثر، بل هو من يحتاج الأقل”

life in an elevator

going up? that is the ultimate dream.

meanwhile, stuck in the middle between the 24th and the 25th floor, starting to wonder whether you are going too slow, or even worse if you are not moving at all! PANIC ATTACK!

other elevators are functioning normally. so you start going over every little detail of the past ‘floors’, past stops and landmarks. did you have any?

you press the 23rd button, then the 22nd, and you kep going down, down the road of your moments of glory… are they many? who knows? it makes you feel good for a while there…

BREATHE…

the elevator is still not moving! no matter how many times you are pressing that arrogant arrow up.

PANIC ATTACK!

other elevators are functioning normally. you start wondering [since you have plenty of time to do just that], what is normal?

normal is everybody except you… is that good?

and somewhere along that long stop, you feel like you are moving your elevator manually, all alone! when you get tired it stops. and the more floors you pass, the more tired you get. EXHAUSTING PANIC ATTACK!

where is that alarm button? what does it exactly do?

it is dark, you are struggling to stay on your feet. you can’t breathe anymore… when suddenly, you see a light, four actually! four very small lights shining from above… it is then that you realize

somewhere along the line, that thin line that we are leading in life, we find ourselves not listening to the same love songs that we used to listen to

somewhere along the line, we find out how life is weird and unfair

somewhere along the line, we discover how cruel people can be

somewhere along the line, we get attached to people we shouldn’t get attached to, and ignore people we shouldn’t ignore

somewhere along the line, we wish that we could change some days, write the future, and dream a lot

somewhere along the line, we want to be at 2 places at once

somewhere along the line, we wish we could touch the clouds, literally

somewhere along the line, we hope to laugh a lot, cry a little, and live forever

somewhere along the line, we want to sleep sparely, and sometimes sleep a lot

somewhere along the line, we wish to take it all back

somewhere along the line, we hurt people or wish to hurt them

somewhere along the line, nice doesn’t cut it anymore

somewhere along the line, we get scared, or have small panic attacks

somewhere along the line, we find ourselves not fitting anywhere

somewhere along the line, we feel like kings, and know it all

somewhere along the line, we don’t know what is the problem, and somewhere along that same line, we know what the problem is, but we don’t do anything about it

somewhere along the line, bits and pieces of our souls change, break or harden

and somewhere along the line, everything gets blown away with strong wind, erasing everything, including cette parodie!

workshop at central st martins college of art and design london

outline: london is one of the most influential design-hubs in europe and the world. much of its design culture is inspired by the immense complexity of the urban fabric. this workshop will use this complexity as the starting point for investigation and exploration to re-imagine and re-design urban living.

tasks: 1. document a system of organization or their lack therof. 2. document the flow of urban data. 3. identify opportunities for life-enhancing intervention that is specific to a bridge. 4. visualise future scenarios for the suggested interventions. 5. communicate them graphically in a suitable container.
